Updates, links and Messenger around the web

I’d like to apologize for being several weeks behind on comments.  A number of events have happened recently including losing my primary file host, loss of employment and related personal issues.

Some of the download links were broken since my file hoster (which was kindly hosted by my former employer) no longer exists.  They should be all fixed now and I quickly ran through them all.  If you find a broken one, please let me know.

Messenger around the web
Scott Hanselman did a review on Video Kinect /w Messenger.  I admit I was looking forward to giving this a try myself when I got Kinect, but it requires Xbox Live Gold so I didn’t bother.  If you don’t want to read the whole review, long story short, it’s workable, but still needs work.

“Messenger” video call was on Rules of Engagement recently [via winrumors]:

The whole thing is clearly faked as the UI is just sliced in with production video elements, and both parties are severely clipped because of the Picture In Picture.

I’m not sure if I”m missing something or not, but it’s been quite a few months since I had any sort of video-based call (Messenger, Skype or otherwise).  However, I’ve used the removed-in-2011 handwriting in Messenger 2009 many times in those same months.

  1. Hi Jonathan,

I have a strange Messenger related problem. I have *never* used the service, nor have I ever connected to it from my hotmail account, but, nevertheless, there were ~40 “invitations” that I could see in the Messenger account. Now I realize that in itself is a common issue from googling around. Here’s where it gets interesting:

I went in and refused all the invitations. Doing so allowed me to “block the sender and report as spam.” So far so good. However, there is one invitation that *cannot be deleted.*

Every time I try — and I’ve been trying on and off for many days — it just says:

“There was an error retrieving the content. Please try again.”

And that’s all it ever says. This strikes me as sinister. Have you ever heard of this problem, and do you have a solution.

Thanks so much for any response!

  2. hi i didnt know where else to ask so im just gonna ask here;)

if ive taken a ordinary photo pressing my profile pic on msn live how can i find it on my comp to drag it somewhere else??? i have an hp windows 7 home premium 64-bit 😉

  3. I think Windows Live Messenger has now disabeled the “clean” WebCam-function, which was only available in the old versions, completely.
Me and my friends or all using Version 2009 Build 14.0.8089.726 with your LinkReviver v1.1.
Before it went everything alright, but since April 1st, WebCam-function shuts down everytime. Just Video-Calling is working alright.
I would be really glad if you can do anything.

  8. Hi.. I was wondering if you’ve noticed messenger 2009 and 8.5 not being able to send offline messages anymore, or messages at all while you’re appearing offline…

  9. Hello.
Are the changes MS made to windows live id Hotmail the multiple tile windows and no saved passwords done with an update or more than one? If so which ones? I want to restore my hotmail back to the way it was last month. Any ideas?

  10. Hey.. is there anyway you could help me out?

I was trying to downgrade to an older version of Windows live that I liked, but it wouldn’t let me saying I already had it. So someone told me to delete the files in the program files and the use the installer and it would work that way.

Well I deleted them and cleared my recycle bin, and now it says I have a more up to date version, and yet I don’t. I can’t reinstall it because it says I already have it either.

Please help me. I don’t care if it’s an older version or the newest version, I just want my messenger back, please!
